Verbos + TO/ING – Remember doing ou Remember to do?

I remember doing Karate

I remember doing karate when I was a child./ Eu me lembro de fazer karatê quando era criança.

I always have to remember to lock the doors before I leave.

I remember doing karate – (Eu fiz karatê e agora me lembro disso)

I always have to remember to lock the doors – (Eu sempre tenho que me lembrar de fechar as portas e só depois eu as fecho)

Compare:

I remember sending you the email

I remember sending you the e-mail. (Eu já enviei o e-mail e agora me lembro disso)

Remember to send me the e-mail!

Veja:

like listening to music. (Eu gosto de ouvir música)

like to eat out on the weekends.

like listening to music.

like to eat out on the weekends.

Explico porque: Esta semana eu escrevi em um exercício o seguinte: “I finished to do my writing exercise.”. Daí uma professora nativa (Estados Unidos) corrigiu da seguinte forma: “…finished doing my writing exercise (Think of TO + verb more for future)”

    - Every day I have to remember to do my english homework at night.
    - I like drawing (?) and listening music…
Posso escrever “I like to draw”? É a mesma coisa? Ou está errado ainda? “I like draw”?

“I like reading books” and “I like to read books” are the same?

Em minhas aulas práticas de inglês me acostumei a usar “I like to do…”. Mas parece que “I like doing” é mais usual. Estou enganado?

    Thank you for your attention.

  36. Hi Osvaldo and Renata,

    A diferença é a seguinte:

  51. going to significa oque vc vai fazer
verbos com ing oque vc esta fazendo

  52. Hi!
    Great tip, but I have a doubt…
In your examples for ‘like+to’, you’ve used “I like to eat out on the weekends.” and said this form (like+to) is used for especific situations… So, if I don’t say when I like to eat out, must I say just “I like eating out”?

(Could you say to me if anything is wrong about what I write, too? Like verbs or wherever… Please? :D )

Thank you so much for your site! :D
