Car maintenance

It's important to perform regular car maintenance.

Car maintenance (a manutenção do carro) is a very important concept for car owners (para proprietários de carros). Here are a few things that must a tire (tái-ãr)be regularly checked: oil and filters, tire pressures and brakes (coisas que devem ser verificadas regularmente: óleo e filtros, pressão de pneus e freios).

I thought my car didn’t need more than an oil change (troca de óleo) to stay in good running condition (ficar em boa condição).

You know what? I was wrong.

Brakes must be regularly checked.

When it came time to sell (quando chegou a hora de vender), I spent a small fortune in car repairs (consertos no carro).

That’s when I finally learned that routine maintenance checks (manutenções de rotina) can save the car owner a lot of money.

Expert mechanics recommend that you have a maintenance schedule (um programa / calendário de manuteção) and really stick to it.

How about you? Se você tem um carro, responda as perguntas abaixo:

  • Do you have a reliable mechanic that you use all the time?
  • Do you keep your car in top running condition with regular car maintenance?

Andando de carro

A police officer waved at me.This morning I was driving (eu estava dirigindo) at about 120 kilometers per hour (km/h) – I was really late for a meeting with a client.I found a parking space.

A police officer waved at me (um policial me fez sinal) to stop the car (parar o carro). I slowed down (diminuí a velocidade) and pulled over (encostei o carro) of course, and then… I got a ticket (uma multa), since the speed limit (limite de velocidade) was 80 km/hour.

At this point, I knew I was going to be late for the meeting. What’s worse, I couldn’t find a parking spot (lugar para estacionar) when I got there.

I drove around the block (dei a volta no quarteirão) looking for a parking garage (um estacionamento). I was so nervous that I almost hit a truck (quase bati em um caminhão)!

I finally found a great parking space (lugar para estacionar) near the office. Things were finally looking up (as coisas finalmente estavam melhorando)!

Your turn – é a sua vez:

  • What is the speed limit where you live?
  • Is it easy to find a parking spot where you live?
  • Do you usually leave your car in a parking garage?
