Como digo em inglês chegar a um acordo, chegar num meio termo

Hoje quero comentar sobre duas expressões idiomáticas: meet someone halfway e go all the way. Legal, não é? Parecem que as duas têm alguma relação se pensarmos no sentido literal das palavras, ou seja, “encontrar alguém no meio do caminho” e “ir todo o caminho”.

Na verdade elas escondem sentidos bem diferentes quando são usadas idiomaticamente.

You'll have to meet me half wayImagine a seguinte situação: você está numa loja comprando aquela roupa dos sonhos (bom, tive que abrir parênteses aqui, pois isso parece coisa de mulher. Para homens pode ser em loja de eletrônicos. Também serve como exemplo grin ) E você está pechinchando um desconto.

Digamos que você pediu 30% de desconto e o dono da loja não aceitou sua proposta, mas também não quer deixar você sair de lá sem o produto. Então ele oferece 15%. Você acha que é bom negócio, pois a peça em questão vale a pena. Então vocês chegam a um acordo. Para isso, ambas as partes tiveram que fazer concessões, ou seja, you meet each other halfway.

Outra situação para ilustrar essa expressão e que encaixa muito bem é um casamento. Para uma relação dar certo ambas as partes têm que ceder, têm que fazer concessões.

If we want this relationship to succeed, you have to meet me halfway and not expect everything to be the way you want.

Então, meet someone halfway é concordar em fazer algo que alguém queira, desde que esse alguém também concorde em ceder em alguns pontos.

Agora, falando em relacionamento, vamos imaginar aquele casal que já está namorando há algum tempo, mas que não chegou às vias de fato, digamos assim. Nesse caso eles não “went all the way”, o que significa que eles não tiveram relação sexual.

I wouldn’t go all the way with a boy if I didn’t love him.

Go all the way (ou all the way) também significa completar uma tarefa, fazer completamente.

She read the book all the way to the end.

Com relação a uma competição, quando um time ou uma pessoa consegue vencer todas as etapas do campeonato, dizemos:

The team went all the way to the finals.

By the way (a propósito), have you ever met someone halfway? What did you have to give up?

Of course I’ve already met someone else halfway. It was my roommate. Both of we want to stay at home to study, but it was necessary that one of us go to pay the rent. So, we met each other halfway I’ll go to pay in this month and she’ll pay in the next month.
Well, Ana I have a doubt about this topics, is every time that this expression has that meaning? I am asking that, because I was reading this post it makes me remember one song’s Black eyed peas called ‘meet me halfway’:P which has this part:
‘Can you meet me halfway
Meet me halfway
Right at the borderline
That’s where I’m gonna wait, for you
I’ll be lookin out, night and day
Took my heart to the limit, and this is where I’ll stay’

So, the meaning of this expression will be change, right?
